Fake Show

Sad way to go out Phil. photocredit:si.cnn.com

We learned several things from the Lakers – Mavs series that just ended with the Lakers being swept out of the playoffs.  First we learned that Kobe is certifiable.  He believed that the Lakers would win not one, not two, not three, but four straight over the Mavs and win the series in seven games.  Can’t win four it you don’t win one.  He said maybe he’s nuts, turns out he was.  It’s happened before, the Lakers being blown out in elimination games, but it’s always shocking to see it.  Games 1 and 3 of this series were really close but Dallas found ways to win.  The Mavs saw blood in the water yesterday and the Lakers mailed it in.

You stay classy Los Angeles!!  Bynum and Odom’s cheap shots were beyond bush league.  When the NFL gets another team in L. A. those guys should try out.  At least Odom picked on someone his size, Bynum took out the smallest guy on the court.  We learned that the Lakers forgot how to lose like pros.  Was Dallas running it up, taking and making threes when the game was out of hand?  Maybe, but you are pros and get paid millions of dollars to cool off hot shooting teams the right way.  Dirk, J-Kidd, Shawn Marion, Tyson Chandler, and DeShawn Stevenson could have gone scoreless yesterday and the game would have still gone into overtime.  Lakers 86, Mavs bench, yes bench 86.

Why Bynum went after Barea

We may have seen Phil Jackson coach his last game.  I’ve never been a huge Phil fan, but his 11 rings speak for themselves.  Yes, he’s always had the luxury of coaching the best players in the league in their primes.  It makes you wonder what he would have done on teams with lesser stars or talent.  But last time I checked, Doug Collins coached Jordan and Pippen before Phil and had no rings or Finals appearances to show for it.  Del Harris barely got out of the first round with Kobe and Shaq.  So it is what it is.  For now the Lakers limp home, Phil rides off into the sunset, and the Lakers management looks to answer an off season full of questions.
