Hats Off to the Man

Tebow went for 316 through the air yesterday and made plays with his arm when he needed to. photo:allisondiane16.blogspot.com

If nothing else Tim Tebow will always be polarizing.  There hasn’t been so much sports talk coverage/hype/fodder for one guy since Brett Favre was playing his games with the media a couple years ago.  He got his first playoff win in his first playoff game yesterday in a 29-23 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He passed for 321 yards and 2 touchdowns, and added 50 yards and another score on the ground after looking absolutely awful the week before in the season finale against Kansas City.

You would think I would’ve learned by now.  When a seemingly superior wild card team goes on the road to play a seemingly inferior division champ in their building, as lopsided as it may seem, anything is possible.  One year ago today I was eating crow just like I am now.  Have a look, http://hardyboysportsblog.com/2011/01/09/202/.  Dick LeBeau and the Steelers triple dog dared Tebow to beat them with his arm, stacking the box, bringing their safeties up, and leaving their corners singled up on the outside.  Tebow answered the challenge, 5 of his 10 completions went for 30 yards or more, including the 80 yard game winner to Demaryius Thomas who made an amazing run after the catch that even included a mini “Beast Mode” stiff arm.  Denver scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter when they hit Pittsburgh in the mouth, and then hung on to win in overtime.

It’s not as if I’m hating on Tebow.  I did that while he was at Florida.  I’m from SEC country, born and raised there.  When he was rolling with the mighty Gators did I root hard against him?  Absolutely.  He’s not in the NFC East, so it doesn’t matter to me anymore.  I, just like Dick LeBeau, honestly didn’t think he could adjust, or let it fly like Elway told him, enough to get it done against the Steelers.  It’s as simple as that.    But he found a way somehow, passing and running just enough.  That little quarterback draw is still just as productive at this point as it was when it was first unveiled on the national scene against Tennessee in his freshman year in ’06.

So its on to New England for another shot at the Patriots who thumped the Broncos 41-23 in Denver a few short weeks ago.  After Seattle upset New Orleans last year, I tipped my cap, and then picked against them the next week against Chicago.  I must be getting set in my ways.  I’m going with the Pats this weekend.  To see why I had to eat this crow to begin with, check the link, http://hardyboysportsblog.com/2012/01/08/if-he-thought-last-week-was-rough/.
